After a few hours on the computer, I actually figured out how to convert my NEF files to JPEGS. We were on our way to Cathedral rock yesterday, and took a wrong turn. This is where we ended up. BUMMER Cathedral Rock at sunset. It was cloudy and actually raining in the distance-pretty rare

Thanks! I was pretty happy with them.
Hi Sarah,
I have seen stacks of rocks like that when hiking and was always under the impression that someone was trying to mark their trail .. not really sure though.
Beautiful pics...
Sedona is a huge Bummer !!

I'm pretty sure a lot of the stacked rocks are stone 'altars'. The stacking quiets the mind in preparation for meditation. I could stack rocks all day! The boys really enjoy it too. I'm not so sure it is quieting for them, but they enjoy it nontheless.
I have also heard of people creating stone 'cairns', or trail markers, so I'm sure the stacks mean all kinds of different things for all the different people who create them.
Great photos! Those rocks are really looking orange in that sunset picture. I need to buy one of those digital Nikon cameras.
I like stacking rocks too and I could do it all day too! It is relaxing for some reason. Challenging..and relaxing at the same time. I can escape from stress. Always a good thing. Maybe that's why puzzles were invented?
By the way Tom who commented on this page...Nikon digital camera is on my Christmas list...
